Rotten TomatoesThere's a new movie in town that will give you the chills if you enjoy your fair share of scary flicks. The newest entry in the legendary Evil Dead series, Evil Dead Rise, promises to take fans on an exhilarating journey. Alyssa Sutherland and Lily Sullivan play the primary parts in the April 21st release, and Mia Challis, Nell Fisher, and Morgan Davies play significant supporting roles. In Evil Dead Rise, viewers will see the reunion of two estranged sisters, Elle and Beth, in a high-rise apartment in Los Angeles. Sadly, a long-lost book gives birth to demons that want nothing less than chaos and carnage, so their reunion is shattered. As the two sisters and their family engage in a struggle for survival, chaos is produced. Mommy loves you to death, the phrase on the movie's main poster, offers a good indication of what to anticipate from this

The film was originally meant to release exclusively through HBOMax via direct-to-streaming, but it performed so strongly during test screenings that the studio decided to release it theatrically instead.
Unlike the previous films, set in a cabin in the woods, this one will be set in the city and the protagonist will not be Ashley Williams.
The second film in the Evil Dead series to be shot in 2.39:1 and the first in the series to be Filmed in Panavision (anamorphic). The previous installment Evil Dead (2013) was filmed in 2.39:1 using spherical lenses while the original trilogy directed by Sam Raimi (who also serves as an executive producer on this film) was shot in spherical 1.85:1.
Writer and producer Sam Raimi's previous movie had been Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (2022). While there is no plot connection, both movies share the motives of a possessed mother terrorizing her own children, and a book with a corrupting influence.

"Beth: [from the trailer] I'm getting us out of here. I promise. Kassie: You'd be a good mom someday, Auntie Beth. Beth: Oh yeah? Kassie: Yeah. You know how to lie to kids."
