One of two 1982 theatrical feature films first released that year with the title of "Fighting Back". The movies are the American vigilante action thriller picture "Street Wars" aka "Fighting Back" [See: Street Wars (1991)] and the Australian youth drama feature film Fighting Back (1982). Ironically, both pictures featured a number of prominent "Tom" personnel: The U.S. movie starred actor Tom Skerritt as John D'Angelo and had a character called Tom Cassidy played by Jim Lovelett, whilst the Australian film was based on a novel called "Tom" (1978) by John Embling, had a central character named "Tom" played by Paul Smith, and had Tom Jeffrey being a co-screenwriter and one of the producers on the picture.
Cast members, Tom Skerritt and Yaphet Kotto, both previously had about three years earlier appeared in Alien (1979).
McPherson Square in the suburb of Kensington in the city of Philadelphia in the American state of Pennsylvania, USA was set decorated with graffiti for the picture. The filming location was closed to local traffic for the first five weeks of filming there. Local residents were asked to help restore the locale to its original condition during the final week of principal photography in exchange for appearing in the movie as extras and background artists.
The name of the vigilante group was the People's Neighborhood Patrol (PNP).
This vigilante action thriller movie debuted in the same year as the Charles Bronson vigilantism sequel Death Wish II (1982).
