The scenes in Max's hardware store were filmed at Evers Hardware store on Hickory St. in downtown Denton, Texas. Very little set decoration was needed.
The scenes for the small Hispanic neighborhood were filmed at an old cabin-style motel on the southwest corner of Dallas Dr. and Eagle St. in Denton, Texas. The buildings were eventually torn down sometime after filming was completed.
The jail scene was filmed in the old Denton County jail facility located on the top floor of the Denton County office building next door to Denton City Hall in Denton, Texas. The scene was actually filmed in the late evening. The "daylight" coming through the windows was produced by covering the outside of the windows with large pieces of white fabric and then shining bright spotlights on them.
