Scenes showing the outside of the wax museum or taking place on its display floor were filmed at Count Orlok's Nightmare Gallery in Salem, Massachusetts.

The clothing choice for some, if not most, of the cast are homages to famous figures from earlier horror movies. Fritz is clearly meant to look like Jan from The Brain That Wouldn't Die (1962), Ashley is wearing a striped shirt very similar to Freddy's from A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984), Vermin wears military fatigues like (and has a scene similar to) Capt. Rhodes in Day of the Dead (1985) and Katherine wears pink pajamas early in the film that are reminiscent of an iconic hoodie worn by Jennifer in Jennifer's Body (2009).
