Due to the ill health of director Mazhar Khan the film took up to 9 years to complete. After the death of Mazhar Khan, Mashkoor Chowdhry, the assistant director of the film completed the remaining portions of the film.
The film draws inspirations from Reservoir Dogs (1992), Satya (1998) and Vaastav (1999), with a similar plot line as well as modified story-lines.
Zeenat Aman had put her money in this movie when shooting started and because of her and Bharat Shah the movie was completed and released.
RD Burman recorded one song of the film. After the death of Burman, Anu Malik was signed as the music director and lyrics were written by Javed Akhtar.
Anu Agarwal was signed for the film, but had to leave for Paris to shoot for an advertisement. She was later replaced by Ektaa Sohini.
