Gannibal is a Japanese-language Web series based on a famous manga. And, when that is the case, usually the result is superb. Gannibal, fortunately, has been appreciated by audiences for its well-paced storytelling, top-class cinematography, solid character development, and avoidance of fantasy cliches. All in all, the five episodes of Gannibal appear to be highly watchable, especially for those who love to indulge in Japanese manga-style content. This mystery thriller series is based around police forces, but successfully avoids the cliches of a regular police procedural. In fact, the pace is deliberately kept low in order for viewers to understand the characters in even greater depth. The slow pacing blends well with the setting, which is in an isolated forest setting. There is specific criticism, however, regarding use of cheap special effects and over-the-top gun scenes, which can deter some purist fans off it. All in all, a great watch.
Based on manga series "Gannibal" by Masaaki Ninomiya (published October 5, 2018 - November 26, 2021 in Weekly Manga Goraku).
