Robert Bathurst, who played John Le Mesurier, subsequently went on to play the character of Sergeant Wilson in Dad's Army: The Lost Episodes (2019), a series of remakes of the three missing episodes of Dad's Army (1968). In the original series, Sergeant Wilson was played by John Le Mesurier.
Real-life figures portrayed in this drama include Hattie Jacques, John Le Mesurier, John Schofield, Joan Le Mesurier (portrayed as Joan Malin), Bruce Copp (portrayed as "Bruce"), Eric Sykes, Esma Cannon, Gerald Thomas, Eamonn Andrews and Amanda Barrie.
Eric Sykes was privately shown 'Hattie' before its first broadcast on BBC FOUR & was unimpressed. He found it's portrayal of his 'Sykes' co-star to be wholly inaccurate & it's depiction of real life events to be untrue.
"[Hattie meets John Schofield for the first time when he drives up in a red E-Type Jaguar sports car] John Schofield: Are you all right here, or do you need to sit in the back like the Queen? Hattie Jacques: [coyly] I'd need six months' notice to squeeze my behind in there."
"[after a blazing row, John, who is Hattie's driver as well as her lover, has just ended the relationship and stormed out of the hotel. Hattie phones the location where she is due on set to start filming] Hattie Jacques: [tearfully] Do you think you could send a car. My driver seems to have... gone."
