Reshooting took place while Haley Joel Osment was still recovering from injuries in a car accident that occurred less than two weeks before.
While not credited in the movie, much of final basketball game was filmed at Wake Forest University after a real game had been played that evening. This is why there is a lot of black & gold tie-dye (the school colors of Wake Forest, but neither of the teams in the movie) in the crowd shots. There is also one shot of a giant foam brick, with silver tubas in the back corner, that was taken from the actual game that night.
Ryan Merriman, Danielle Panabaker and Brent Briscoe had all starred in Disney Channel Original movies. Merriman appeared in "Smart House", "The Luck of the Irish" and "A Ring of Endless Light". Panabaker appeared in "Stuck in the Suburbs" and "Read it and Weep". Briscoe appeared in "The Thirteenth Year".
