The harp logo seen throughout House of Guinness is based on the 14-string "Brian Boru" harp, an actual historical instrument. Guinness trademarked its version of the harp in 1876, nearly 30 years before the Irish government adopted the symbol for official use. Since Guinness trademarked the harp first, the government had to reverse the direction of the harp's when using it as the official national emblem.
The character Edward draws inspiration from Edward Guinness, who turned the Guinness brewery into a global empire and became one of Ireland's most generous philanthropists.
