TRIVIA

Trivia

First feature film ever screened at the Toronto Film Festival which is now the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

Karen Black replaced Bibi Andersson in the role of Maya. It was a late replacement.

A week before this movie opened the 1978 TIFF (Toronto International Film Festival), Ontario Board of Censors demanded that a 38-second scene involving Berenger and Lightstone making out behind a couch to be cut. Rebel TIFF staffers smuggled the original film reel into the theatre and showed the uncut version.

Though the movie was filmed in French and English language speaking Canada, the picture's source 1966 novel of the same name by Stephen Vizinczey was not translated into the French language and published in France until 2001 where upon the book there became a best seller.

The picture had its World Premiere in Ontario, Canada at the Toronto Film Festival on 14th September 1978.
