A good portion of this movie was filmed in the surrounding area of Killarney, Ontario, a small town of three hundred people.
Toured film festivals starting in December 2017, including the Toronto International Film Festival and the Vancouver International Film Festival.
During shooting, the filmmakers honored the culture they were portraying by allowed elders to launch each shooting day with a smudging and prayer ceremony which lasted up to 45 minutes and inconvenienced their schedule.
In the novel by Richard Wagamese, Saul's brother died from tuberculosis he contracted while at a residential school.
"Saul (22 Yrs.): They told me to tell my story..."
"Father Gaston: You are a glory, Saul."
