Induk Gajah is a series based on the true story of Iragita, a 30-year-old reporter living with her single mother who constantly pressures her to get married. The series explores how societal expectations and cultural traditions impact family relationships, particularly the mother-daughter dynamic. When Ira's mother reconnects with a friend who has a son, Marsel, she arranges for Ira to meet him with the intention of setting them up. However, Marsel already has a girlfriend, and his mother disapproves of his relationship because his girlfriend does not have a Batak surname, which is forbidden in their culture. Despite this, Ira agrees to get to know Marsel, and they become friends who support each other's personal lives, even though they are not officially dating. The acting in the series, particularly by Marshanda (Ira) and Tika Penggabean (Ira's mother), is excellent. Dimas Anggara also delivers a convincing performance as Marsel, despite not being Batak. The series offers an insightful portrayal of family dynamics within the Batak community while addressing universal themes of love, acceptance, and cultural identity. It is available to watch on Prime Video and is highly recommended.
