Due to how often Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine have acted as love interests, Rebel has joked that they are "essentially the Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling now... we just play love interests in all movies." Additionally, Adam has stated that Rebel is his "work wife." They have played love interests previously in Workaholics (2011), Pitch Perfect (2012), and Pitch Perfect 2 (2015).

Rebel Wilson just asked Adam Devine if he wanted to play one of her love interests. "The movie script was super funny, so as soon as I read it and I knew Rebel was attached, I was like, yeah, sign me up."
Rebel Wilson's first film as the lead role.
Rehearsing the musical numbers, according to Rebel Wilson, came very easy to her and Adam Devine. In their previous film, Pitch Perfect, they were required to attend a boot camp in which the music and choreography was taught to them prior to filming. That experience prepared them for learning two musical numbers in a short period.
"Natalie's Mom: They'll never make a movie about girls like us, and you know why? Because it would be so sad that they'd have to sprinkle Prozac on the popcorn or people would kill themselves."
"Blake: You are beguiling. Natalie: Did you just learn that word, cause you tend to say it a lot. Blake: If you want me to stop saying it, I will. But you're gonna have to stop being so damn beguiling!"
