Brahm Dutt (Dilip Kumar) is set up and framed for a murder for which he is jailed, because of his scheming son-in-law, Raghuvaran (Indrajeet Sabharwal). His Daughter Sonu (Swapna) is also killed at the hands of Raghuvaran, when Raghuvaran slaps and tries to molest Mohini (Madhuri Dixit), when she confronts him about his evil deeds. Brahm Dutt avenges the death of his daughter and the years spent in prison. Against this backdrop, Vijay (Govinda) is a man who works for the underworld after he is shot as a child. After finding love with Mohini, he changes his ways and joins up with Brahm Dutt to take revenge as he too has been wronged by the same group of villains.

At one point Govinda stopped giving dates to the film and refused to shoot for the film. The producer Sudakar Bokade asked Dawood Ibrahim to call Govinda and advice him to begin the film again. Govinda fearing for his life complied and finished the film.
This was the only movie of Govinda and Dilip Kumar.
This was the last movie of Govinda and Madhuri Dixit together as a pair.
Shilpa Shirodkar almost signed the film, but the director was not happy with her .
Earlier in 1987 Director K.Bapaiah, was making a movie with Dilip Kumar titled Raasta. Mithun Chakravorty and Anupam Kher were also in the movie, even the mahurat was performed with Dharmendra giving the clap, but Raasta was shelved. Then later on Director K.Bapiah made Izaatdaar with Dilip Kumar
