The movie was shot entirely in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, so for the jungle scenes that appear at the beginning and end of the movie, palm trees were brought in to make the location look tropical.
No CGI was used in this film for any of the effects.
Robert Englund agreed to take the part of Professor Crowley after watching one of Brookstreet Pictures' short films, Still Life (2005).
The "Prof Monster" that appears at the end of the film, took between six and eight people to operate at one time.
The radio station Jack always listens to is 88.7, which was the major alternative rock station in the Windsor, Ontario and Detroit, Michigan area. Screenwriter John Ainslee and Producer Patrick White are both natives of Windsor. In November 2020 the station switched to a country music format.
"[Howard has just told the story about how he buried his possessed uncle after he bit off his hand as a child] Jack Brooks: So he... he ate your hand? [Howard shows Jack that he has a hook instead of a hand] Jack Brooks: How did you dig the hole? Howard: Well goddammit, it wasn't easy!"
