When director Jesse Vile first approached Jason Becker about doing the film, Becker was reluctant at first because several other people had attempted to make films in the past and gave up. To try and convince him, Vile accessed as much available online content as possible and created a teaser trailer based on his vision for the film. Jason loved it and gave him the green light.
75% of the film's budget was raised through online crowd-funding.
Won the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Biografilm Festival in Bologna, Italy. American film critic Leonard Maltin was head of the jury that year along with producer Paul Zaentz and director John Scheinfeld.
While in production, the film's working title was 'Perpetual Burn: The Story of Jason Becker'. 'Perpetual Burn' is Jason Becker's first solo album, which was released in 1988.
Won Best Feature Documentary at the 2012 Chicago International Movies and Music Festival.
