Rakesh Roshan was a new filmmaker and made good films in quick succession. Khud-Garz in 1987, Khoon Bhari Maang in 1988, Kala Bazaar in 1989 and Kishen Kanhaiya in 1990.
After Khud-Garz, his first directorial venture, Rakesh Roshan decided that his second movie will star Jeetendra and Shatrughan Sinha. When Rakesh Roshan started Khoon Bhari Maang, he offered Jeetendra the role of Rekha's husband and Shatrughan Sinha the role of JD, her benefactor. Both were to be billed as Special Appearances as they were relatively brief roles in the heroine-centric movie. Jeetendra was super- busy those days and did not have dates to spare for the Special Appearance. Rakesh Roshan decided to act in that role himself to keep the movie on track.
before starting to shoot for the film Rakesh Roshan first shaved of his head. This look is popular even today as his trademark look.
