The film is narrated by Tom Hanks, who is descended from the family of Abraham Lincoln's mother, Nancy Hanks.

Actor Billy Campbell was cast as Abraham Lincoln about five days before production of Killing Lincoln (2013) started, the docu-drama being made after Steven Spielberg's Lincoln (2012) had first released.

Both Raynor Scheine (Samuel Mudd) and Ted Johnson (William H. Seward) also appeared in "Lincoln" (2012) as different characters.

Ramsey Hanchette's debut.

This film's closing credits dedication reads: "In Memory of Tony Scott."
