TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Peter Michael Goetz's check for post-release royalties came to 3 cents. He has it stapled to the film's poster in his house, having never cashed it.

ln his book "The War of Art: Break Through the Blocks and Win Your Inner Creative Battles," writer Steven Pressfield mentions this movie as a life-changing, validating failure. It was his first professional writing job after 17 years of trying. After the movie bombed, he realized he'd become a professional. He hadn't yet had a success, but he'd had "a real failure."

Peter Weller was offered a part, but opted to play the title role in RoboCop (1987) instead.

Listed among the 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made in Golden Raspberry Award founder John Wilson's book "The Official Razzie® Movie Guide."

In the scene where people are celebrating the success of Kong's heart operation (directly after the operation scene) there is a person carrying a sign that reads "You Kong, Me Fay", a reference to Fay Wray, the actress in the original King Kong (1933).

Popular Dialogues

"Amy Franklin: [feels sorry for Hank, who is miserably huddled and shivering with just a blanket wrapped around him while she is nestled comfortably and warmly inside her snug sleeping bag, and so she turns over with a slightly resigned air, unzips the side of the sleeping bag, casts open the entire length of the upper half, and smiles up at Hank invitingly] Hank Mitchell: [in a tone of slightly surprised hesitation] Uhhh... are you *sure* about this? Amy Franklin: [in a casual friendly tone, referring to Kong's having prepared a comfy spot on the nearby grassy plateau for Lady Kong and him to sleep] Yeah, why not... we're primates, too."

"[first lines] Amy Franklin: I'm sorry. Dr. Andrew Ingersoll: That cost this institute seven million dollars! Dr. Benson Hughes: She knows how much it costs. She's been a part of it since we first got Kong's heart resuscitated. Amy Franklin: There's nothing wrong with the heart. The damn thing runs like a Swiss watch. It's his blood."
