The scene where Huey has a fist-fight with former Governor J.Y. Sanders in an elevator at the Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans actually did happen, but during the gubernatorial campaign (Nov 15, 1927) prior to Huey's election.
This film marks the first (and only) time that renowned actor John Goodman (who also played Huey Long in this film) had received a producing credit. Besides this,He was also credited as executive producer in the 2006 TV revival of Baseball Bunch.
Huey's oafish bodyguard Bozeman (seen testifying during the impeachment scene) is played by John "Spud" McConnell, who has portrayed Huey P. Long in numerous stage productions and on TV.
Matt Craven and Anne Heche both appeared in The Juror the following year.
Anne Heche and John Goodman were also both in Pie In The Sky.
"Huey P. Long, Jr.: [to his disappointed father] I'm trying to change the world!"
