This film and Kaashmora (2016) have numerous similarities. For instance: 1. Both films were released during Diwali 2016. 2. Both films start with 'K' 3. The lead actors in both films play dual roles. 4. The second film for both lead actors for the year 2016. Dhanush's earlier film was Thodari (2016) while Karthi's was Oopiri (2016). 5. The third film for both directors. 6. The music for both films were composed by the same composer, Santhosh Narayanan.
Although this film has been promoted as Dhanush's first film featuring him in dual characters, it technically is not. His successful 2015 science-fantasy film 'Anegan' featured him in 4 distinctive characters, each of them appearing in a different era. Some sources deny this, because these characters are supposed to be different incarnations of one soul.
For the first time, Dhanush is playing dual roles.
"Kodi: Did you think that once the shirt is spoiled, I will not go to party office? I have many white shirts."
"Bhagat Singh: The meeting has started and he is not to be seen anywhere... [suddenly sees Kodi and gets surprised] Bhagat Singh: When did you come here Kodi? I didn't see you. Kodi: Hey Bhagat, the life is not just to eat, drink and be merry. There are many other problems also. Bhagat Singh: I never understand what you say. Kodi: If you understood, then wouldn't you be on my position?"
