TRIVIA

Trivia

Like Sean Baker's Tangerine (2015), the movie was entirely filmed on an iPhone, during the 2022 summer in Taipei, Taiwan.

Official submission of Taiwan for the 'Best International Feature Film' category of the 98th Academy Awards in 2026.

Young star Nina Ye (I-Jing) was six years old, playing a five-year old. She had already been acting half her life, mostly in TV commercials. She was accompanied on set by her mother who was her acting coach. Director Shih-Ching Tsou was relieved to discover that Nina's mother was able to get Nina to cry on cue by playing sad music and telling her a sad story.

The project was announced in 2012, but finding the financing proved difficult. It is only after a screening Sean Baker's Red Rocket (2021) during the 2021 Cannes Film Festival and reading the script for Left-Handed Girl that the "Le Pacte" production company decided to produce and distribute the movie.

The family's noodle stall is located in Tonghua (Linjiang) night market in Da'An district, Taipei city.

The film was shot entirely on an iPhone.

The story was inspired by director Shih-Ching Tsou's own childhood experience of being shamed by her grandfather for being left-handed.

Selected as the Taiwanese entry for Best International Feature Film at the 98th Academy Awards.

The script was first written by Shih-Ching Tsou and Sean Baker in 2010 but struggled to get financing for over a decade.

The story is inspired by director Shih-Ching Tsou's own childhood experience where her grandfather told her not to use her left hand, calling it the 'devil's hand'.

The film is Taiwan's submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 98th Academy Awards.
