This is the fifth movie in the Leprechaun series, although the number "5" doesn't appear anywhere in the title or credits.
Director of Leprechaun 3 (1995) and Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996), Brian Trenchard-Smith pitched his idea for what the 5th movie would've been, which would've had the Leprechaun finding his way into the White House. As the director has noted, his version would have seen the little imp infiltrating an oafish but well-meaning first family. As a political satire of the Clinton era as that was the director's favorite president. However, the studio, Trimark turned it down, feeling it was "too out there." at the time.
"Leprechaun: A friend with weed is a friend indeed, but a friend with gold is the best I'm told."
"[after first seeing Leprechaun] Butch: What the fuck is that? Stray Bullet: I don't know, Chucky on crack? Shoot that motherfucker!"
