One of the longest films in the world with its 4 hour 15 minute-long screen play. Based on the story of Indian soldiers at Kargil and their war efforts against Pakistan (Operation Vijay), the movie attempted to give each character a good background story.
Real ammunition and weapons were used in this movie. Real Bofors FH-77B artillery were shown but the firing sequences were stock footage.
The scene in the movie where Capt. Anuj Nayyar (played by Saif Ali Khan) gives his engagement ring to Col Bawa played by Kiran Kumar is actually true. Before going for his objective, Capt. Anuj Nayyar gave his ring to Col. Bawa saying that he didn't want the enemies to get his ring and he would take it once he came back.
Shahrukh Khan was first offered role of Sanjay Dutt but things couldn't worked out.
JP Dutta offered Salman Khan a role in the film but asked him to do it for free. Salman reasoned that if JP Dutta was going to sell the film to the distributors and not for free, why should he.
