Jailed as a juvenile for killing his abusive father (Sudhir Kumar), Prithvi (Salman Khan) is unable to witness any atrocity without losing his temper. He meets with Maggie Pinto (Revathi Menon) and after a few more chance meetings, they both fall in love. Maggie takes Prithvi to meet her parents, and they reject him due to his violent background. Maggie and Prithvi persist, and Maggie's mom, Stella Pinto (Reeta Bhaduri) calls the police, and has Prithvi jailed. Guruji (Amjad Khan) comes to his aid, and bails him out. Both continue to meet, little knowing the tragedy awaiting both of them.

It was the 6th successful movie of Salman Khan with debutant actress. His previous films were Maine Pyaar Kiya (Bhagyashree's debut), Baaghi (Nagma) ,Sanam Bewafa (Chandani),Patthar Ke Phool (Raveena Tondon) & Kurbaan (Ayesha Julka's debut).
Amjad Khan refused the film because he found his role too small. But upon seeing the original film and being told that S.P. Balasubrahmaniam won the national award for best supporting actor, he finally agreed.
70s and 80s legendary actor Amjad Khan worked with Salman Khan, the only famous Khan (out of Salman, Aamir and Shahrukh) to have worked with Amjad Khan.
The producers approached Pooja Bhatt for the lead role but she declined. She was too busy with bee debut film Daddy and wanted to focus on one film.
The film was scheduled to be a Diwali release in 1991 with Akayla. The producers decided to back out at the last minute.
