TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

This was Peter Ustinov's final theatrical film before his death on March 28, 2004 at the age of 82.

There are many instances when actual quotes are used by the characters. This includes Friar Tetzel's (Alfred Molina's) "Coin in the coffer rings a soul from Purgatory springs", as well as Luther's "Here I Stand" speech.

Co-produced by "Thrivent Financial for Lutherans", an American company affiliated with Lutheran church organizations, primarily the two largest national U.S. Lutheran Church organizations (The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America and The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod). Thrivent is a component of the "Fortune 500", the five hundred largest companies headquartered in the United States, but it is the only not-for-profit organization or company, which is a component of Fortune 500, because it is a members only company, serving the congregants of Lutheran churches in the U.S., operating much like a members only credit union or mutual (meaning owned by its members) insurance company.

Stephan Schwartz is the German voice of Luther.

There are sixty-six screen credited actors and actresses. Of those, sixty-one are actors, and five are actresses.

Popular Dialogues

"Martin Luther: Unless I am convinced by Scripture and by plain reason and not by Popes and councils who have so often contradicted themselves, my conscience is captive to the word of God. To go against conscience is neither right nor safe. I cannot and I will not recant. Here I stand. I can do no other. God help me."

"Martin Luther: So when the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: I admit that I deserve death and hell, what of it? For I know one who suffered and made satisfaction in my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, son of God, and where He is, there I shall be also!"
