    To celebrate his eightieth birthday on 26 March 2005, Daniel Barenboim invited Boulez to Berlin for a series of events at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden that were staged under the title "Homage to Pierre Boulez." Boulez conducted the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in an all-Bartok program which, mindful of the symbolism of the occasion and with a certain hint of nostalgia included the First Piano Concerto. Boulez went on to conduct a performance of Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony with the Berlin Staatskapelle and the Berlin State Opera Chorus and later that same evening he performed a work of his own with his Ensemble InterContemporain.
