Hospital scenes were filmed at Marshall Medical Center in Placerville, Ca. In the old O.B. wing that was recently moved to the new south wing. Hospital staff including Engineering and IT Telecom helped with the set.
Much of this movie was filmed in Northern California, including Ponderosa High School, in Shingle Springs, Ca.
Actor Dylan Riley Snyder wanted to visit a Children's Hospital on an off day while filming MamaBoy. His Idea of visiting a children's hospital resulted the stars (Dylan Riley Snyder, Sean O'Donnell, Mikey Reid, Allie DeBerry and boyfriend Tyler Beede of the SF Giants, Micheal Reep, and Cassidy Schaffer) visiting the Shrine'rs Children's Hospital in Sacramento California on a day that was scheduled to be an off day for all cast and crew. They signed autographs, took pictures with the children, made some bedside visits with children that could not leave their beds, did arts and crafts, and played some games with the children in the hospital. all on their day off and voluntarily.
Sean O'Donnell spent some time offscreen practicing soccer at a nearby field. He even played a little with teams that were practicing.
MamaBoy is the first film that actors Stephen Tobolowsky and Gary Busey worked together on.
