Writer/director Mark Cantu includes several genre Easter eggs for hardcore horror genre fans. -Kris McNeil is named after the mother in The Exorcist. -Kris and Maggie's mother is named "Ellen" after Ellen Ripley from the Aliens franchise. -Dr. Martina Brady is named for Sheriff Martin Brody in Jaws. -Debbie Levine's face melting death was inspired by a similar death in The Fly 2. -"Time to die" is a direct quote from Ridley Scott's Blade Runner. Riot Ronnie's spine rip death and subsequent skull remaining are homages to Predator.
