The film led Sean Maguire to be cast as the title character of the short-lived fantasy comedy series Kröd Mändoon and the Flaming Sword of Fire (2009), which was discontinued after one season due to its mixed reviews.
One of the specific references Captain (played by Kevin Sorbo) makes is that he'll "go Hercules on your ass" when he was fighting references his role as Hercules: The Legendary Journeys (1995).
Former film critic turned screenwriter and author C. Robert Cargill recalls seeing the film with what was the loudest, dumbest group of moviegoers he'd ever encountered up to that point. Fifteen minutes in to Meet The Spartans, everyone in the auditorium walked out, complaining how terrible the movie was. This was the only time during the movie Cargill had laughed.
