It served as a finale to the CBS mystery crime drama series The New Mike Hammer (1984).
It is the only television film where Lynda Carter has an antagonistic role.
This television film features eight deaths (six men and two women). Since an account book, Johnny's diary, and a key on Barbara Leguire's costume had no existences whatsoever, Barbara and Leora were both being dishonest along with Helen. Johnny, Carl, and Brad all believed them. That is what led to their unexpected deaths. Reggie and John only murdered Barbara, Bundy, and Leora.
Though Lynda Carter and Jim Carrey did not appear onscreen together in this television film, they both portrayed DC comic book characters. Lynda performed as the title character and her secret identity Diana Prince on Wonder Woman (1975) and Jim performed as Edward Nigma/The Riddler in Batman Forever (1995)).
Michelle Phillips who portrayed Leora in this television film previously appeared in Murder Me, Murder You (1983) as Chris Jameson. Her death in that television film was Michael A. Andrews poisoning through tampered medication; she dies shortly afterwards while testifying in a courtroom. She was not seen taking the poisoned medication, but her apparent "heart attack" in court was shown on screen.
"Carl Durant: [after Mike punches Brad in the nose for being a double-crosser] Drop it, Hammer! Drop it! Drop it. Should've known that you'd be here. Mike Hammer: How is Boston, Carl? Carl Durant: [as Brad gets back up] Shut up. I want the book. Mike Hammer: You're not alone, pal. Carl Durant: I'm serious, Hammer. Where's the book? Mike Hammer: Why are you so interested in Johnny Roman's diary? Carl Durant: Johnny Roman didn't have a diary. I'm talking about the account book. Mike Hammer: Account book? Carl Durant: Account book, yeah. Where's Helen? Helen! [opens the cabin boat's explosive booby-trap door and screams to his death]"
"Brad Peters: Can I ask you a question? Mike Hammer: Sure. Why not? You've been doing it since the day I met you. Brad Peters: Do you think I'm funny? Mike Hammer: I don't know, Brad. I may be the wrong guy to ask. I've haven't smiled in three days. Brad Peters: The reason I asked is I've been thinking about changing careers. And I like working for Doctor Durant, but what I really want to do is be a comedian. I just don't know if I can make people laugh. That's all. You know. Mike Hammer: You got a point. Brad Peters: Want to hear a joke? Mike Hammer: No, Brad. Stick with the comedy. Brad Peters: You're not even good comfort. You know that? Mike Hammer: Find you own desert, pal. Brad Peters: I'm in a lot of trouble because of you. You know. I mean. What was I suppose to do? And why did you level with me? You're working for somebody, aren't you? That's right. You're being paid to get that book. Mike Hammer: Maybe, I don't like it when people get murdered. I mean doesn't anybody do anything anymore without getting paid for it? Brad Peters: Not in Las Vegas."
