Arvind Swamy,Kajol and Prabhudevaa appeared on the cover of the Filmfare magazine to promote the film. This was in 1997. It was very unusual for a South Indian film to get this level of publicity in the Hindi speaking market.
Rajiv Menon, offered heroine's role to Manisha Koirala. Manisha then was busy with other projects and opted out of Minsaara Kanavu. Later,he offered Madhuri Dixit.She too was unable to allocate dates.
Besides acting in this film, Prabhu Deva was also the dance choreographer for all the songs. His work in this film subsequently earned him his first National Award for Best Choreography.
