TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

The real-life Aloha Airlines Flight 243 accident that this film is based on happened on April 28, 1988.

Ana Alicia who plays Michelle Honda, received a lung infection and two broken ribs from the filming of Miracle Landing.

The aircraft used for the movie (bearing the colors of fictitious Paradise Airlines) is a Boeing 737-297 Advanced, registered as N70723. At the time, it was owned by Aloha Airlines (which is the airline involved in the incident of flight 243). That aircraft has been re-registered C-GCWJ and is flying currently (2005) for WestJet Airlines in Canada.

The real aircraft that was involved in the accident (NC73711) was removed from service and deregistered as it was a total write-off due to extensive damage. It was dismantled at it's final landing airport, (Maui) and some usable parts were checked, re-certified and reused in other similar aircraft, which is a little known but common practice for undamaged usable parts.

In real life, an FAA air traffic controller was in the flight deck jumpseat. This was not depicted in the movie.

Popular Dialogues

"Michelle Honda: [Tui's too big for the seat belt] Can I help you? Tui: I'm not sure. Do you have a bigger seat? Michelle Honda: [giggles] Not exactly, but I think I can get you a belt extension."

"Michelle Honda: Cindy? What are you guys doing here? I thought you were on your honeymoon! Cindy Thomas: We're on our way home. Jeff has to get back to work and Paradise has me scheduled to fly this weekend. Michelle Honda: Aw, me too. I've got to fly every weekend this month. So, how was it, guys? Cindy Thomas: Great! [Jeff laughs] Cindy Thomas: But too short. We went to Waipio Valley. Michelle Honda: Ah! That's just perfect. Isn't that the most beautiful place in the world? Jeff Thomas: Well, we wouldn't know. We never left the room. [pause, Jeff and Michelle laugh, Cindy is embarrassed] Jeff Thomas: Except once for breakfast. Michelle Honda: [trying not to laugh] I want to hear more about this but later, guys, OK?"
