Opening scene says the movie takes place in Joplin, Missouri, but the police cars that arrive just moments later say Springfield Police. The actual event this movie is based on took place in Springfield, but was investigated by the Greene County Sheriff's office and not the city police, because the house was outside the city limits. Joplin is close to 70 miles away from Springfield so SPD would not be responding to that call, ever.
