John David Washington as "Bobo" does not show up until halfway through the film.
Though Jennifer Hudson plays Kelvin Harrison Jr's mother in the film, in real life she was only 12 years old when he was born. Also, Jeffrey Wright, who plays Hudson's husband in the film, was 15 years old when Hudson was born.
