Stardust June 1987 edition magazine carried a story of how Suresh Oberoi almost got in trouble for making a obscene pass at a minor underage girl who had came to see the films shooting. Before matters could get worse, the director Ajay Kashyap sent Oberoi packing back to Bombay . Suresh Oberoi denied the allegation and stated that two young girls had left their hostel without their guardians knowledge to see him shoot. He did not realize the girls were there from 830 in the evening till midnight .The girls were scared to go back and were crying. Finally they went back and the principle most expelled them. Suresh Oberoi had to intervene and tell the principle to take them in and forgive them.
Suresh Oberoi's appearance in the film was talk of the town. Suresh Oberoi was the first actor in Hindi movies to have dreadlocks/braids in his hair.
At some point, when the film was announced , tabu was supposed to play the lead role It did not work out and Amrita Singh was signed on
Tera Naam Kya Hai" From Naam-o-Nishan interlude music was made into the opening tune for "Jag Soona Soona" from Om Shanti Om (2007).
The theme music in the opening credits of the movie is the same one from the 1975 blockbuster Deewaar which also starred Shashi Kapoor and Nirupa Roy along with Amitabh Bachchan. Although in Naam O Nishaan Shashi Kapoor and Nirupa Roy shared no screen space together
