  • Story:
Few lives in our times are as dramatic and enigmatic as the saga of Sanjay Dutt. Coming from a family of cinema legends, he himself became a film star, and then saw dizzying heights and darkest depths: adulation of diehard fans, unending battles with various addictions, brushes with the underworld, prison terms, loss of loved ones, and the haunting speculation that he might or might not be a terrorist. Sanju is in turns a hilarious and heartbreaking exploration of one man’s battle against his own wild self and the formidable external forces trying to crush him. It depicts the journey of a man through everything that life can throw at him. Some true stories leave you thinking “did this really happen?” This is one such unbelievable story that happens to be true.

TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Speaking on his role, Vicky Kaushal revealed that his character is an "amalgamation of three or four other friends" of Dutt and is thus "fictionalized".

Paresh Rawal stated that he could not "look like Sunil Dutt" following the look tests but had to "portray the emotions, the 'jazba' (passion) that he had for the country, for his family and for his son"

Sanjay Dutt made a surprise visit on the film sets one day. Ranbir Kapoor shot many scenes in front of him and asked him for approval.

A replica of Sanjay Dutt's childhood home took 25 days to complete.

After watching footage of Manisha Koirala, Sanjay Dutt told her that she was the splitting image of his mother Nargis.

Popular Dialogues

"Sanjay Dutt: The first time I took drugs, it was because my father didn't like me. The second time, it was because my mother was dying. The third time, I was an addict."

"Mahesh Manjrekar: [on phone] Sanju, where are you? We missed the sunrise shoot? Sanjay Dutt: There was a lot of traffic... so many cars in the way... Mahesh Manjrekar: I'm on a landline!"
