TRIVIA

Trivia

Technically, a prequel to Archie Borders' first film, Reception to Follow (1995). Many of the same characters (Morgan, Carly, Chuck, Brad Mullaney) appear in "Reception," and 'Charles Ellis', who played Morgan in "Reception" has a cameo in "Paper Cut." Charles Sexton also appears in both films, (as different characters) and 'William Schulte' reprises his role from "Reception."

Numerous writers, musicians, and radio personalities from the mainstream and alternative press world have cameos in Paper Cut. Local pop music critic Jeffrey Lee Puckett can be seen in the background of Better Days Music store interviewing "Pointy Kitty" band member Stacey Roark. Carl Brown, a columnist from LEO can be seen crossing the intersection, Chuck C.D. Kaplan "Culture Maven" can be seen in the background of the Twig and Leaf Diner, Former critic Danny O'Brien can be seen at the Mercury Paw, Musicians Ray Rizzo (who plays Henry Vowell) and his band, as well as the Pointy Kitties, and other musicians pop up in the background. Barry Thomas, who plays Ben, played bass in the band Love Jones. Charles Ellis was in the band Shaking Family. FM radio personalities Laura Shine and Scott Mullins were to appear but were cut from the film when a few scenes were cut.

The film is filled with alternative "Louisville Music Scene" bands: Soundtrack includes tracks from seminal Louisville band "Squirrel Bait," also "King Kong," "My Morning Jacket" and cult fave "Love Jones."

Originally, there were more scenes with radio show host, Frank Hepburn. In the scene where Chuck goes to the bank for a loan, the banker is talking to "Mr. Hepburn" and tells him he's 'sorry about his ferret.' Later, when Morgan (Justin Shilton) exits Better Days Records, there is a 'wanted, lost ferret' sign on the telephone pole next to him.

Another shot, but deleted, subplot dealt with the Twig and Leaf waitress Carol's (Melissa Combs) obsession with Chuck. Bits of it still remain; she flips him off as the movie begins, she's following Chuck and can be seen in the crowd at the Mercury Paw and again staring at him in the crowd, just a few rows behind him and to the left, at the Hunter S. Thompson lecture.
