Vidya Balan was not the first choice for the role of Lolita. Vidhu Vinod Chopra was hoping for an established actress such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan or Rani Mukerji. Vidya screen tested for the role for six months before Chopra was thoroughly convinced.
