Filmed at the Hatley Castle in Victoria, Vancouver Island, BC. Also used in the great ghost story movie 'The Changling' (1980) starring George C. Scott, Melvin Douglas and Trish Van Devere.
Some scenes set in the Castle were filmed at "Government House" in Victoria BC. This is the official home of the Lieutenant Governor who is the Queen of England's representative to the provincial government of British Columbia.
The family crypt seen in the movie was actually an elaborate set built in an old A&B record store in downtown Victoria, BC.
The plot revolves around a castle in Essex county MA. However the castle they travel to is in Worcester MA. Worcester MA is in Worcester county.
