TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

After Chicago (2002) became a big hit, Miramax bought several Bob Fosse-related musical properties, Pippin among them. The feature project is reported to be in development as of 2013.

At the very end when asked how he feels, Pippin says, "Trapped, which isn't bad for the end of a musical comedy." The line was written "Trapped, but happy, which isn't..." but director/choreographer Bob Fosse changed it. It was fought out and today, the original version of the line appears in the play.

The lyrics to "With You" are almost entirely different than the lyrics appearing on the Original Cast Recording. Also, slight differences in "War is a Science" and "Simple Joys."

The original Broadway production of "Pippin" opened at the Imperial Theater in New York on October 23, 1972, ran for 1944 performances and was nominated for the 1973 Tony Awards for the Best Musical, Book and Score. The 1973 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical was won by Ben Vereen who recreated his stage role in this filmed production.

The sheet music flown in for "No Time At All" clearly says, in the lower left corner, "(C) AD 783." The historical Berthe, Bertrada of Laon, died on June 12, 783.

Popular Dialogues

"Catherine: Do you feel you compromised your dream? Pippin: No. Catherine: How do you feel? Pippin: Trapped. Which isn't bad for the end of a musical comedy."

"The leading player: And then it happened. Suddenly, shamelessly, and without warning, as it must in all musical comedies, they were struck by... a love song."
