TRIVIA AND POPULAR DIALOGUES

Trivia

Studio publicity material noted that the trumpet, custom made for Harry James, was insured during production for $2,500 ($45,000 in 2022) and that it had its own guard - ex-LAPD officer Milton Searls.

At the time he appeared in this, Donald O'Connor (Donny) was barely 17, and earning $200 a week as one of Universal's newest contract players. He soon found himself being paired with fellow teenager Peggy Ryan (Peggy) and being "developed" as Universal's equivalent to M-G-M's Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland. He finally hit his stride as the recurring co-star of one of the studio's biggest box office draws in Francis (1950), that launched the film series.

"Don't Sit Under the Apple Tree (with Anyone Else But Me)" to which this film's lengthiest and most extensive dance number is set, was one of the biggest selling recordings of World War II. More than a million copies were bought, and it became a signature tune for The Andrews Sisters.

'Muggsy' Shavel (Shemp Howard) is wearing the rank insignia (correct for the time this film was made) of First Sergeant in the Army, and by the hash marks on his left sleeve he has been in the Army for at least twelve years.

In this film, Harry James receives a draft notice. However, in real life, he was ineligible for the draft due to a back injury.
