TRIVIA

Trivia

Judith O'Dea's name in this film is Crystal Lake, which is an obvious nod to Camp Crystal Lake in "Friday 13th" (1980).

Two fires were accidentally set during filming. The first was caused in an electrical outlet in the kitchen, which was made of 112 year old knob & tube wiring. Too much energy was plugged in from set lights and caused the outlet to burst into flames. While trying to fix it, the lighting director, Kevin Manning, was mildly electrocuted, thinking the correct power switch had been turned off, but it hadn't.The second fire occurred in the tree on the back patio during the scene showing Betsy (Brinke Stevens) talking on the phone with her sister Amy. To create atmosphere, the crew had extended a light up into the tree behind a thick set of leaves. As director Jason Paul Collum called "action" and Stevens began performing, he noticed smoke billowing out from the tree and screamed "Fire!" The crew quickly pulled the light out and distinguished the flames.

Filmed over 5 consecutive days. Cast and crew typically filmed 17 hours each day.

Director Jason Paul Collum had been contacted by another director, Cory Udler about his Ed Gein segment in the film Hole in the Wall (2014). Udler wanted advice on how to hire actress Judith O'Dea of Night of the Living Dead (1968) , whom Collum had worked with on other projects. Collum arranged it so that O'Dea would take half a day off filming Safe Inside to work on Hole in the Wall in a different area of the property, so long as she was paid a separate wage.

As actress Karen Dilloo (Georgianne) stretched around the front yard of the main house filming a scene in a skimpy outfit, a car passing by pulled over, honked its horn and the ma inside screamed out his window "God Damn!" then drove off still honking his horn. Dilloo had to stop filming because she was laughing. Director Collum tried to include the unexpected action in the final cut, but it didn't fit in the narrative of the the rest of the scene.
