The show's title is a satirical spin-off of the Alan Jay Lerner & Frederick Loewe musical "Brigadoon" first performed on Broadway in 1947. The musical was later adapted into the film Brigadoon (1954).
Barry Sonnenfeld claimed on the Smartless podcast that he was not a musical theatre fan and with each new episode would ask if the song was really needed
Though the show skewers general tropes of all musicals, it seems to lean heavily on five, Brigadoon, Oklahoma, Carousel, The Music Man, and Sound of Music. While the synopsis says they are trapped in a 40's type musical only Brigadoon, Oklahoma, Carousel were on Broadway in the 40s.
This show marked the third time Dove Cameron (Betsy McDonough) and Kristin Chenoweth (Mildred Layton) performed together in a musical. They previously starred together in Descendants (2015) and Hairspray Live! (2016).
Although credited as series regulars in the opening credits of Season 1, Martin Short and Jane Krakowski only appear in one episode each.
