STORY

Story
A Newfoundland fishingboat comes to the aid of a wrecked Danish sailing ship and tows it to a small village, but eventually the captain of the fishingboat realises that it's a U-boat supply ship in disguise, loaded with torpedoes. So, together with his crew and a group of villagers he sets about a plan to blow the ship as well as any U-boats that approach it. Based on the novel "The Gaunt Woman" by Edmund Gilligan.

In the scene where Dana Andrews' character, Pat Banyon, comes off the supply schooner, and ties his dinghy up on the dock, watch how he ties the line to the bollard. He uses a fast method to tie a clove hitch, belying Andrews' significant experience as a sailing and boating enthusiast.

The invasion of Denmark by Nazi Germany started on April 9th, 1940 and lasted only 6 hours. The invasion was called Operation Weserubung and the occupation lasted until 1945.

This was the only film that Dana Andrews (Pat Banyon) and his younger brother Steve Forrest (Holtz) made together.

Most Navy convoys supplying Britain during World War II were formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada and crossed the Atlantic under constant threat posed by German U-boats.

Based on the novel "The Gaunt Woman" by Edmund Gilligan which was serialized in The Saturday Evening Post from October 10 to November 21, 1942.
