The movie was shot on location in Dundalk and the surrounding countryside in Co. Louth, Ireland. The plot was inspired by tales of secret societies that existed in the country in the 1800's, most notably the Ribbonmen.
Only four scenes in the movie had scripted dialogue - the rest was entirely improvised by the cast with some guiding input from the director. These four scenes were shot as pick-ups.
The movie was shot over 10 days in October 2009, while the pick-ups were shot over three days in May 2010. It was completed in exactly one year, with the script being written in August 2009 and the final sound mix being completed in August 2010.
