For a dark mystery, the premiere of the series titled Shadow Detective is surprisingly humorous. Through a port region of the town of Geumo, veteran detective Kim Taek-rok who is played by Lee Sung-min of Juvenile Justice is pursuing a criminal he has been battling for years. Both hatred and compassion are equally present in his character, and he vividly portrays both aspects of Taek-rok. It's not the high-speed adrenaline rush you'd find in a regular cop versus criminal fight, though, as both are in their middle years. Instead, it's characterized by amusing huffing and puffing and agreements to take breaks so that each other may collect their breath. Shadow Detective is a compelling and addicting series that keeps you on the edge of your seat. It draws you in as more and more layers are peeled back to disclose new evidence and possible red herrings, until Taek-rok's situation seems like something you, too, must resolve.
