The focus on Adora/She-Ra and Catra being each others main adversaries is taken from the original Princess of Power toy-line, in which Catra was the main villain. The Evil Horde were created for the Masters of the Universe toy-line, but added to the She-Ra story line in the Filmation series.
In contrast to the original series, Adora / She-Ra is extensively rewritten to make her origin a result of her own initiative and heroism. For instance, rather than have her twin brother come to Adora's world and free her from a spell making her loyal to the Evil Horde, Adora in this series is simply naïvely acclimated to that life as the only one she's ever known. When Adora is finally exposed to the evil of the Horde and its manipulations, she herself fundamentally has to make the profound moral decision to take a stand against it and join the Rebellion as She-Ra. Furthermore, a major character arc for Adora is her struggle to earn the trust of the Rebellion, who are logically suspicious of a former soldier of the Horde who still wears her uniform with a reflexive military bearing.
Aimee Carrero is the only voice actor to be credited on every episode and is usually credited as Adora/She-Ra. Adora appears in every episode except for She-Ra and the Princesses of Power: Princess Scorpia (2019) and She-Ra only appears in 41 of the 52 episodes.
The theme song is "Warriors", written by Kari Kimmel and performed by Aaliyah Rose. The trailer for the final season (season 5) features a slower, more dramatic version of this song performed by AJ Michalka (who also voiced Catra on the show). This version is featured on the soundtrack album "The Music of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power", the regular version having been released as a single previously.
Three of the show's five seasons aired in 2019.
