Parambrata Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee join up again for Arindam Bhattacharya's political thriller Shibpur. The movie will be released on May 5 and was produced by Sandeep Sarkar and Ajanta Sinha Roy of Indo-Americana Production. Based on actual events, the movie explores Shibpur in the 1980s, a neighbourhood in Howrah not far from Kolkata's downtown. In the past, Shibpur was well-known for its rife criminal activity. Chief Minister Jyoti Basu picked a capable IPS officer to oversee peace and order at that time. Parambrata will play an IPS officer in the movie, while Swastika will play a woman who advanced from being a common housewife to a legendary lady mafia gang boss. In addition, Mamata Shankar, Susmita Chatterjee, Rajatava Dutta, Kharaj Mukherjee, and Sujan Neel Mukhopadhyay appear in the movie. The story of Shibpur develops from the viewpoint of a political journalist employed by a prestigious daily in Kolkata. They discovered an intriguing account of a lady who ruled the region for a long period until she vanished in the late 1990s and was never recovered. After significant carnage, the district was stabilised thanks in large part to the efforts of an IPS officer who had been recruited by the previous chief minister to handle the law and order situation. The woman's disappearance is extensively explored throughout the movie.
