Shot in only four weeks using sets and costumes from One Million Years B.C. (1966), in order to offset the earlier film's cost of 140,000 pounds.
This was originally set to be the "A" feature on a double bill with The Old Dark House (1963), but after studio head James Carreras pronounced it not up to Hammer's standards, it was edited down from its original 91-minute length and released as a support feature on a double bill with The Devil Rides Out (1968).
The original title was going to be'Slave Girls of the White Rhino' but it was shortened to 'Slave Girls'
The American title was 'Prehistoric Women'.
Martine Beswick said in a 1998 interview that she thought this film was the "worst piece of rubbish," but she had a such fun time and just ripped through it.
"David: What is it? Jakara: It is the sign of the sacred white rhino. It guards the entry to the land of the Pu'naka. Wait, walla! David: Well, we haven't gone this far to be turned back by a primitive tree carving! Jakara: But, here, the devils of darkness are all about us! David: The devils of what? Jakara: The spirits of the past - that protect their holy shrine, from the desecration of the lure of the ice."
"Warrior: You are on the hallowed hunting grounds of the Pu'naka. No hunting is allowed here! David: I only came to end the suffering if this wounded beast. Warrior: Your presence has disturbed the spirit of the white rhinoceros!"
